Entering its 5th year as a 2 acre food forest on public land in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, Fair Amount Food Forest has planted and maintained over 972 fruit and nut producing trees and shrubs and 2143 perennial vegetables, culinary, botanical and pollinator herbs, in its first few seasons. Many of our initial plantings are coming into early years of bearing fruit, and our free harvest and local donations have begun with 2000 pounds of fruits, nuts, and vegetables per year to date while we nurture maturing plants. Our regularly occurring volunteer events have engaged over 600 people this past year, and Educational Workshops and Community Events have engaged over 2200 people in 2024. Through frequent volunteer opportunities, educational programs, community events, and as an accessible demonstration garden, we are introducing a growing number of people to diverse approaches to perennial food production, harvesting and processing of fruits, nuts, vegetables, and herbs, as we facilitate participation in, enjoyment of, education and benefit from the community farm.

We work to improve our community’s access to and consumption of fresh produce and healthy foods through free harvests, produce donations, support of local food pantries, investing in refrigeration and food storage infrastructure, and Fair Amount Food Forest’s work to launch and facilitate a farmers market in 2025. Local partnerships help us work to improve food security and access to healthy foods in a holistic manner, through free food avenues, our farmers market, community gardening and events, and education in production, harvest, preparation & use of fruits, nuts, vegetables, and herbs.

Fair Amount Food Forest is a nonprofit 501(c)3, incorporated in 2021. Initially 100% volunteer run throughout 5 years of planning, this effort physically began with 1 quarter-time Project Manager and has grown to provide for a part-time Director and a handful of part time staff working 5 to 16 hours per week, seasonally, to facilitate volunteer participation, educational programs, and community events. Through generous support of a handful of local, regional and national funders, we have grown and maintained a modest budget to support our work to date.

We ask for your support to continue our work, grow our organization, and serve the Strawberry Mansion area and general public in Fairmount Park at Fair Amount Food Forest for the long-haul, providing landscape and infrastructure maintenance at our public garden, community engagement & volunteer facilitation, food access programming, educational programming and features, community events, and in growing a farmers market.

A donation of any amount will make a significant impact in our organization & work this season and contribute to our long-term sustainability.

We thank you for your consideration.
